TEEN MAGAZINE JUNE 1959~Pat Molittieri
MAGAZINE WAS SOLD AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE...
What a neat cover this is of the vivacious Pat Molittieri who was considered the best fast dancer on American Bandstand in the late 1950s. Her foot movements were "a puzzlement"...but whatever her secret, it worked, and no one could capture her style. She also "bounced" as she danced and no one seemed to have as much energy or enjoy dancing as much. This cover shows her in 4 fashions and in 5 dance moves. Check out that circle skirt and petticoat. There's a wonderful pictorial section inside the magazine that I will be photographing and putting here in the days ahead, so please bookmark and return. This shop is a place to not only shop for fashions or memorabilia but also to relax, have fun, and reminisce. Boomers are welcome for sure...but I hope the youth of today will want to catch a glimpse of life in the 50s and 60s. You all are welcome here.
When this fun issue from June 1959 came out, Bandstand regulars were dancing to and America was listening to the number one song "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton and some of these other songs: 1959 Chart Songs (not in chart order except for first song- "Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton #1 (a real rouser)
- "Personality" by Lloyd Price was #2 (Dad loved this one)
- "Sorry, I Ran All the Way Home" by The Impalas
- "Lipstick on your Collar" by Connie Francis
- "Tallahassee Lassie" by Freddy Cannon (dancing yet?)
- "Dream Lover" by Bobby Darin (can't wait for the movie of his life)
- "Frankie" by Connie Francis (she had 2 on top 20 this month)
- "Along Came Jones" by the Coasters
- "Kansas City" by Wilbert Harrison (song is catchy!)
- "Lonely Boy" by Paul Anka
- "Kookie Kookie...Lend Me your Comb (makes you smile)
- "Endlessly" by Brook Benton (slow dancing perfect)
- "Quiet Village" by Martin Denny (love or hate it?; it was different)
- "A Teenager in Love" by Dion & the Belmonts (really connects with Bandstand days)
AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE but Elvis Presley didn't make the top 20 in June 1959. However, his "Now and Then There's a Fool Such as I" and "I Need Your Love Tonight" had remained on the charts through May '59. I got that for my birthday from my sister. I think I wore it out.My apologies if anyone noted my earlier list of top hits here which was off a couple of months. It is now corrected.
She has also donated a yearbook that will soon be available for sale at a fixed price and will also go to the fund for picture storage and site fees. This type of generous support by friends of the site and by ex Bandstand regulars has really overwhelmed me. I am very appreciative of their kind and generous offers of materials here for either view or for sale to help the site.
