FRANKIE LOBIS

Frankie Lobis was born September 15, 1941. It is believed that he died in the mid to late 1980s. A Regular who knew him well says that Frankie had a heart attack while dancing. According to his friend and fellow Regular, "He went happy and doing what he loved doing."

Frankie was a very popular Regular who had many dance partners. I personally remember him dancing with Pat Molittieri, Peggy Leonard, and Peggy Thompson. I am sure many of you will recall other dance partners he had.

After leaving American Bandstand, it is my understanding that Frankie worked as a hair dresser. I have read that he was the youngest of 12 children.

Peggy Leonard (also in the Memorial) and Frankie often danced together and also attended parties outside of Bandstand with some of the same group of Regulars who danced up a storm--often at the home of Barb Levick who had a weekly Rec Room Party on Wednesdays according to Frank Ruggerio. As Frank said, they would often have records to dance to that "hadn't hit the airwaves let alone AB"--like "great Motown stuff".

This picture of Frankie Lobis appears to be from the 1970s
based on the hair and clothing styles.
I am sure this was taken in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California,
which is only about 17 miles from where I am located
and we were just there a few weeks ago.
...Picture was received from Joe Lobis and we thank him very much!
Maybe Joe will let us know a bit more about the picture.
He said he received it from a cousin in Philly.

"Frankie Lobis was one of my favorite dancers also. I enjoyed his style of dancing (besides I thought he was a cutie)and he was always fun to watch. I always loved it when he would dance with Pat M " - Jeano (visitor to the site)

"I have a recollection of Frankie Lobis dancing with Dottie Horner soon after the show went national in August, 1957 and for a good while after that. They both were excellent dancers." - Eagle (friend of the site)
