MONTE MONTES

pictures of Monte Montes were sent to the site by Lana Kazenski. We thank her for adding to this memorial.

SOME COMMEMORATIVE WORDS BY FANS OF MONTE:
"I was very sorry to see on our Memorial Board that Monte's one we lost. I used to run into him all the time at 13th & Market Streets at The King of Pizza - years after Bandstand moved to California. It always made me feel very much at home in the world. Strangers (girls) used to stop me on the street EVERYWHERE and ask me whether I really, really knew him. Then they'd tell me how lucky I was. In other words, they'd go nuts! Whenever I told him about these incidents he didn't quite believe me. He always thought I was way exaggerating. I wasn't. He never wanted Bandstand to end. He danced on The Steel Pier Show in Atlantic City for quite a while after he went over the age limit for Bandstand." - comment by Linda T.

"I'm so sad to hear that Monte had passed away. I mentoned in a previous post about my one visit to AB that Monte was the regular that Pop Singer told me to ask to dance. Pop knew that Monte was a genuinely nice young man who loved to meet people. I sure droooled over him during the show but couldn't get the nerve up to ask him to dance. I remember reading in some of the columns that Monte would often take breaks from the show during basketball season because he played on a team at school. He just always seemed like such a nice boy who did not let his popularity and status as a "A" list regular go to his head. I was a member of his fan club and corresponded once or twice with him. This was just before the mashed potato dance contest and he told me who his partner was going to be..." - By Donna V. (friend of the site).
