I remember Carmen and Freddie Cannon were supposed to be dating (I read ALL the teen magazines back then and still do read the ones I have).

I remember Annette and Arlene being friends and Arlene going to spend some time at Annette's home and commenting on Annette's round bed. Annette did mention Arlene in her book "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes", at least I think that was the title. It was a great book.

I remember it was said that Neil Sedaka wrote "Oh Carol" for Carol Scaldiferi (not good with spelling of Italian names), and he did sing it to her on the show one time.

Also, I remember Carole Gibson had dated Bobby Rydell in school and someone sent me a picture of them together which got lost through the years.

Hi Jan,

I was hoping for some responses to your question. I didn't know Neil Sedaka wrote "Oh Carol" for Carol S. I also read Annette's book and knew that Annette was friend's with Arlene. Your question is a god one . I hope some of the regulars see it and answer it.

Hi,

I just am noticing your comments and wanted to answer them to the best of my knowledge. I never heard or knew that Carol Gibson dated Bobby Rydell in school, and that there was a picture of them together. That's very possible, since Carol was from South Philly and went to the same school as Bobby Rydell.
Also, I knew Carmen and Freddie Cannon were very good friends, but, never heard that they dated each other.
As far as Neil Sedaka singing the song, "Oh Carole" to me on the show, just to clear this up, he sang it to me on the AB show and introduced the song singing to me, however, he did write the song for his friend, Carole King, who is a great song writer and singer also. I actually got to talk to Neil Sedaka in the 1970's when I was a special surprise guest on a talk show in Philadelphia, when he was on the show. They called me to come out and surprise him, and then he sang the song to me again. What he told me that day was that my opinion of the song meant a lot to him the day he sang on AB, because he felt if I liked the song, that others would like it also, and it would be a hit . . and so it was a big hit!
I take it as a compliment, but the song itself was truly meant for Carole King. I love Carole King, and just watched her in concert on TV with James Taylor, it was absolutely a wonderful show, she looks so good, and so natural, they both looked terrific for their age and are so talented. It looks like they are close friends and that they may be dating each other. They're a great duo. . . and they're going to be in Philadelphia soon at a concert, I'd love to see them if possible.
Also, I wanted to comment on the "round" bed that Annette F had when we were on AB. I remember hearing all the details about her and her round bed from my good friend at the time, Steve Brandt, the writer for 16 Magazine. Several of the regulars were close to Steve (including myself) and he used to keep us informed about Annette Funicello and Shelly Fabrare, and others, that he would see in California and we got to meet them in New York at parties that were held at The HARWYN CLUB, which was a well known club in New York. I was also close to the daughter of the owner of the club, Joan Wynne, she was a beautiful girl, blonde hair, and dated Fabian Forte' for a while. She stayed with me on weekends at my home and often we stayed in Wildwood, N.J. together, whenever Frankie Avalon and Fabian were appearing in shows down at the shore, we were there!!
I've lost touch with Joan Wynne over the years, would love to know if anyone knows her, and would love to hear how she is doing.
I hope this answers some of your comments and questions.
Best Regards,
Carole Scaldeferri-Spada
