This very lovely old music box/jewelry box was brought to me from Japan in or around 1965 when my Swiss girlfriend made a trip by ship to Japan. I have treasured this many years but am clearing some of my personal possessions, so will let someone else enjoy it as I have. It has a small comparment for jewelry and I kept only my pearl neckace and a few other pieces in it. You could store whatever your treasures are. It plays a lovely piece of classical music which I do not know the name of. The inside compartment that is felt lined in red measures about 5 1/4 inches by 2 3/8. The outer measurements are 8 1/4 x 3 x 2 1/2. I believe the box is made of wood which has been highly lacquered and has a very pretty sheen/glaze which is adorned by Japanese floral art that almost looks cloisonne in style. There is a nice mirror that goes the length of the inside of the lid (see 2nd picture). The box sets up off the table with about a 3/8 inch clearance. The music plays well. CONDITION: Very good and I have kept it on a bookcase shelf for over 40 years. There is a tiny indent in the glaze to the left side of the lid and you can see that in the picture. REMEMBER THAT SHIPPING IS FREE TO OUR USA BUYERS. This will be wrapped in bubble wrap and sent by Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. The price you see is the final price.
