This is one of the oversize fifties New York News Sunday Coloroto magazines, which are hard to find in the big size approximately 15 x 11 inches. Many of these vintage thin Sunday newspaper magazines were tossed out with the rest of the Sunday paper and those which have managed to survive have often been worse for the wear. However, this magazine is intact and in very good condition considering it is over 50 years old. There is edge wear of the right margin of 2 ofthe interior pages but this is not unusual in these very fragile old thin newspaper magazines. There are 28 numbered pages and they are clean and flat. The cover features a beautiful picture of actress/singer Jane Powell with a small bio on her within the issue on page 6. This is an interesting collectible and the magazine would be good for framing if you wish to display that way. Inside you will find special features, fashion, food, human interest, entertainment, crossword puzzle, sports, gossip, etc. You'll also find two old city street views of New York City. There are lots of old ads as well. In a pin-up picture is the Typical American Girl that was a feature of many of the issues and this time she's lovely Lee Adams of Norfolk, Virginia. An old Schlitz full page ad featuring the holiday season is fun to see. A full page article with color picture of Count Basie will interest music fans. If you are a doll collector, there's a small ad about 5 x 4 inches of the American Girl 21 inch fashion doll. During the 50s some people made money at various jobs and there's a full page pictorial article about the average worker making money in TV commercials. You'll find a two page pictorial article titled "Powwow in Queens: Local redmen celebrate American Indian Day." The double-page color centerfold of this magazine features beautiful party dresses for the holidays. Gridiron Galley features Alan Ameche and Ray Mathews in color pictures. A B&W pictorial article about FBI men will interest the history seekers. Remember when we made homemade Christmas decorations, well there's a little feature about a homemade Santa Claus that one could make for a door trim or as a big doll...but of course the pattern could not be sent for today--but you might find it somewhere on the WEB.
