DIANA BENERO ALBUM

American Bandstand Regular who has become a very good friend

In Diana's words: "Here is the pic of me wearing the wrist corsage that my date, Russell Loverdi gave to me for my junior prom at St. Maria Goretti High School---the theme of the prom was "Evening in Paris" Spring 1962. He is the one standing next to me----I met Russell at Starlight Ballroom Wildwood the previous summer. And that is one of my best friends from high school, Marianne Fantazzi, sitting next to me and her date. The pic was taken at my house right before we all went to the prom."

In Diana's words: "Another pic is Marianne and me circa 1961 ----I think we are at a writers' conference for high school students at
Villanova University, Villanova PA."

In Diana's words: "And the other pic is one I came across as I was looking for the other pics. It show my business partner ( and friend) Jean and me when we first met Aaron Spelling and his wife Candy at their house in Beverly Hills in 1987 ---Candy asked for our help to identify and catalog her dolls. This was taken in front of their house ( the one they owned before they built the mega mansion). First time I ever met Candy---she paid for my and my daughter's airfares, had us picked up in a limo from the airport, and served all of us a wonderful catered lunch--she herself made a delicious chocolate cake."

TIDBITS FROM THE MAGAZINES

  • This is funny because it shows how badly the magazines got names of Regulars spelled. Here's a quote from "Pat's Party Line" by Pat Molittieri in the April 1961 TEEN MAGAZINE: First I'll put the names as they spelled them and there's lot of corrections needed. Then I will put it as it should have been spelled..."A boy who is getting quite popular is George Carrelli. He gave Diane Bonario(she's Carol Scaldeferri's cousin), a surprise birthday party which turned out to be a real blast. A lot of new regulars were there--such as Flossie Harvey (who happens to be Billy Cook's cousin). It seems to me that the cousins are taking over the show." Ok, it should have read: "A boy who is getting quite popular is George Kralle. He gave DIANA BENEROa surprise birthday party which turned out to be a real blast. A lot of new regulars were there--such as Flossie Harvey (who happens to be Billy Cook's cousin). It seems to me that the cousins are taking over the show."
  • In the TEEN WORLD Magazine for June 1961, there's this cute tidbit about Diana in an article where they talk about which Regulars are going steady and what they feel about going steady, and who's dating who, etc. Here's what was said about Diana in this issue: "Then there are some playing the field, still feverishly afflicted with Spring Fever. Who? Plenty, like Alan Durbin, Peggy Leonard, Bonnie Harden, DIANA BENERO, Sue Beltrante, Pat Molittieri, and Ronnie Verbit."
